Robert Appleton, a partner at Olshan Frome Wolosky who used to prosecute Iran-related sanctions cases for the Justice Department, told Fortune that, especially in light of Binance’s checkered past and prior legal struggles with sanctions evasion, he expected the exchange would be more vigilant about suspicious activity of any sort. “That agreement with the government changes everything because it increases their obligations,” he said.
